BT Shared Data Centre Upgrade.

At BT Telephone House Belfast, the brief was to construct an extension to the existing Data Centre on the sixth floor together with the alterations to existing plant and systems to support it. As part of the upgrade a new switch room was formed providing additional MV circuit breakers on the existing board.

At Knock Telephone exchange Belfast, we had to redevelop the entire facility as a back-up Data Centre. This involved the expansion of the first floor to accommodate more racks and the upgrading of existing power supply from LV to HV. To support the buildings new function, we serviced and installed two existing generators within the BT Estate to provide emergency power when required.

On both sites we had to ensure that everything within the live data centres would remain environmentally protected, as a result several systems were implemented and installed. This included fire suppression systems, controlled air conditioning (with backup and monitoring provision) plus water leak detection.

We installed surge protection devices to protect against power surges and outages, as well as temperature and humidity controls. This kept the facility at a constant temperature and prevented overheating that may lead to operational malfunctions
