Cathedral Lanes Shopping Centre Coventry

The Client

Cathedral Lanes Shopping Centre was constructed in 1989 and has since undergone different stages of refurbishment.

In October 2014 Shearer Property Group acquired the centre for £5.5m with the intention to develop it into a restaurant and bar quarter for the city.

William Coates where appointed to complete the most recent refurbishment working alongside GRAHAM Interior Fit Out for Shearer Property Group.

Scale

The refurbishment which began in February 2015 was completed over 2 floors within a live shopping centre in Coventry’s city centre.

Overall construction value on this 33 week project was £1.8m.

Scope

William Coates delivered the M&E works associated with the reconfiguration of the ground and upper levels of the commercial property to create new A3 units.

The new units were extended into the mall and a new Centre Management Office was formed.

All the existing mechanical, electrical and public health and sprinkler services installations were carefully stripped out and replaced as part of the works, including the disposal of a refrigerant based air conditioning system.

William Coates provided all the new MEP services to suit new tenant area layouts and landlord areas.

Complexity

Existing retailers including Wilkinsons continued to trade throughout the 33 week programme. We employed our disruption management procedures to ensure all parties effected by the works where kept informed throughout the project with appropriate processes employed to ensure that there was minimal impact on their day to day business. This multi million pound refurbishment was successfully handed over on time on budget.
