Refurbishment Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre Edinburgh

The Client

Ocean Terminal Shopping Centre was built on former industrial docklands on the north side of Edinburgh. In 2012 Resolution Property acquired the centre.

William Coates where appointed to complete three major M&E projects as part of an ongoing refurbishment of the centre, working alongside GRAHAM Interior Fit Out.

Scale

The 420,000 sq ft centre is home to 85 shops, 6 restaurants, 3 coffee shops, a variety of bars and cafés, as well as a cinema and a day spa. William Coates completed all 3 phases of this significant refurbishment project.

Overall construction value on this project was £6.0m

Scope

The project was delivered in 3 distinct phases to minimise disruption to centre tenants and shoppers.

Phase 1 included the relocation of the Centre Managements Suite.

Phase 2 involved M&E works associated construction of a new mezzanine floor to cater for a new restaurants and refurbishment of mall areas.

Phase 3 involved a new extension to facilitate new H&M unit.

Complexity

The location and nature of the works meant that phased implementation was essential to allow the shopping centres to remain operational throughout the entire programme.

During the mobilisation stage we meet with our client’s project team and their professional advisors, to establish house rules and requirements. We established specific rules, with regard to permits to work within the site, connections with utilities and areas which are out of bounds to William Coates operatives.
